**Seoul City Appoints 20 New Honorary Mayors for the 7th Term: Expected to Serve as Messengers Through Policy Communication and Promotion**
Seoul City announced on the 3rd that it has appointed 20 new honorary mayors for its 7th term, including actress Go Doo-shim. From a total of 57 candidates, who were recommended by citizens and related departments, notable figures such as national actress Go Doo-shim, Choi Jae-boong, Vice President of Sungkyunkwan University, mental health professional Oh Eun-young, and traffic safety expert lawyer Han Moon-cheol were selected.
The selection was made through a fair review by a committee consisting of experts and city council members. The term of office is one year. The honorary mayor system has been in place since 2016 to incorporate citizens’ opinions into city governance. Individuals with influence and expertise in specific fields are selected through public recruitment, and a total of 59 honorary mayors have been active so far.
The city has restructured the fields of the 7th honorary mayor term to include 19 areas such as social solidarity and demographics/low birthrate, involving influential figures leading social trends.
The appointment ceremony was held at 10 AM in the Multipurpose Hall on the 8th floor of Seoul City Hall. Mayor Oh Se-hoon presented the honorary mayors with Infinity-shaped plaques and welcome kits for their activities. The infinity symbol on the plaque represents the connection of each government activity to citizens’ daily happiness, as well as the “future cooperation and infinite possibilities” between Seoul City and the honorary mayors. The welcome kit includes an honorary mayor ID for free access to city hall, a USB with major administrative information, and a hat designed in next year’s Seoul color, Green Aurora.
Mayor Oh Se-hoon expressed his joy in bringing together individuals with exceptional communication skills and expertise as honorary mayors, stating, “We will work diligently with the honorary mayors to engage in governance and actively support their activities to enhance the happiness of citizens in their daily lives.”
