KISTI Releases Conversational AI Service Based on 180 Million Science and Technology Information Records

“(Daejeon=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Ju-young: The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) announced on the 9th that it has launched ‘SAI’ (ScienceON AI), an interactive AI integrated search service, through its research infrastructure sharing platform, ScienceON.

SAI is a service that combines generative AI with the existing integrated search feature, allowing researchers to find answers to research questions through dialogue with AI.

When a user inputs a query in the form of words or sentences, the AI searches through 180 million pieces of scientific and technological information, including papers, patents, and reports held by ScienceON, to provide appropriate responses.

To enhance reliability, the information referenced for generating responses is also displayed.

In addition to providing answers to users’ queries, it suggests recommended questions and search terms to help explore a wider range of information and identify new research directions.

The accuracy has been improved by applying ‘Gonie,’ a science and technology-specialized large language model (LLM) developed last year, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation technology (RAG, which uses existing data to minimize hallucination during learning).

Yoo Soo-hyun, Head of KISTI’s Convergence Service Center, stated, ‘It will contribute to reducing researchers’ efforts and increasing research efficiency and productivity.'”
