On the 22nd (local time), during the award ceremony of the ’75th Berlin International Film Festival’ held in Berlin, Germany, the winners of 8 categories, including the highest prize, the Golden Bear, were announced. Director Hong Sang-soo’s new work, ‘What Does Nature Tell You?’ was in competition.

However, the award was not won. Director Hong Sang-soo, who received the Silver Bear Jury Prize last year for ‘Motivation of the Traveler’, missed out this year. Instead, ‘Dreams’ won the Golden Bear with its exploration of jealousy towards people engulfed by desire.

Instead, director Hong Sang-soo gained another blessing. Actor Kim Min-hee, who has been in a close personal relationship with him for ten years, is currently pregnant. Last month, rumors arose that Kim Min-hee was six months pregnant and expected to give birth this spring, and on the 19th, she appeared noticeably pregnant at the airport for the film festival.

Kim Min-hee challenged a flight to Berlin while heavily pregnant to support director Hong Sang-soo. There was focus on whether the two would appear together officially, but Kim Min-hee did not attend the local press conference.

Instead, Director Hong Sang-soo directly mentioned her by saying, “I don’t calculate budgets separately. For our film production, the necessary personnel include an assistant, production manager Kim Min-hee, and a boom mic operator—four people in total.”

Kim Min-hee contributed to the production management in this work as well. Although they returned from the film festival empty-handed, director Hong Sang-soo becomes a father to a newborn at age 65. Thanks to Kim Min-hee, he gained a child instead of an award.
