“Kakao is expanding its communication channels with users with disabilities to create an inclusive digital environment. Kakao announced today (the 20th) that it held a ceremony on the 17th at the Kakao AI Campus in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, to launch the 3rd ‘Kakao Accessibility Supporters’. Kwon Dae-yeol, the group ESG officer, and Kim Hye-il, the digital accessibility officer, attended the event.
The Kakao Accessibility Supporters are tasked with directly using services and reporting accessibility issues in real-time over the next year. This year, they recruited 50 individuals with various types of disabilities in cooperation with organizations such as the Korea Blind Union and the Siloam Center for the Blind. Particularly, the participation of users with auditory and visual impairments is expected to allow for more detailed feedback.
Last year, the 2nd supporters reported about 160 issues, and over 90 of these were forwarded to the actual service departments for improvements. At the ceremony, an award and prize were given to one outstanding participant from the 2nd group.
Now in its third year, the supporters have changed the way they operate. Moving away from individual activities, small groups will be formed according to the type of disability, strengthening communication and information exchange among participants.
Participants are provided with exclusive merchandise packages along with annual subscriptions to services like Talk Cloud, Emoticon Plus, Melon, and points for KakaoPage and KakaoT. Kakao, along with its major affiliates, plans to continue its group-wide efforts to improve accessibility.
Additionally, as of 2026, Kakao is providing digital accessibility training for new recruits in the group’s public hiring and participants in the Kakao Tech Bootcamp. Since November 2025, a beta service called ‘Schedule Consultations in Sign Language’ has been operated at customer centers for users with hearing impairments.”
