Kakao Entertainment announced on the 19th that the Disney+ original series “Lighting Shop” has achieved global success, drawing significant attention to the original Kakao Webtoon “Lighting Shop” and works from the Kang Full Universe.

Since the release of episodes 5 and 6 of “Lighting Shop” on Disney+ from the 11th to the 15th, the original webtoon’s views have increased by 187 times, and sales by 159 times. This resurgence in popularity is particularly notable given that the original work was completed in 2011, aligning again with the series’ broadcast. Additionally, another work from the Kang Full Universe, “Moving,” also saw its views double and sales triple, fueling a trend to revisit these originals.

“Lighting Shop” is a piece that explores the boundary between life and death, incorporating a mix of mystery and humanism, and stands as one of the initial works in Kang Full’s representative universe. The Disney+ original series concluded its grand finale on the 18th, praised for its profound narrative and the actors’ performances, both domestically and internationally.

Meanwhile, another popular work based on Kakao Entertainment’s IP, the MBC drama “The Call You Are Making Now,” also saw a significant rise in the popularity of its original web novel and the webtoon adaptation. The web novel had a 5-fold increase in views and a 15-fold increase in sales, while the webtoon saw a 4-fold increase in views and a 7-fold increase in sales.

A Kakao Entertainment representative stated, “Starting with ‘Escape with Seon-jae’ this year, followed by ‘Lighting Shop’ and ‘The Call You Are Making Now,’ the adaptation of Kakao Entertainment’s IP into visual media has achieved successful outcomes. We plan to continue investing in creating high-quality works based on competitive IPs next year.”
