Jeonnam Provincial University has launched the University Integration Promotion Headquarters and held a signboard ceremony to speed up preparations for integration with Mokpo National University.
The University Integration Promotion Headquarters of Jeonnam Provincial University, led by Professor Kim Jong-myung, the Director of Academic Affairs, will act as a communication channel to gather various opinions from faculty, staff, and the local community, and to make timely decisions on integration. It will oversee setting the basic direction for integration and coordinating practical issues.
Additionally, the headquarters plans to frequently hold working-level meetings to discuss and decide on matters regarding integration. It will handle public hearings, briefings, and opinion collection related to university integration.
To facilitate this, they will closely examine tasks arising during the integration process and reflect the voices of local residents and stakeholders to present a development model for the Jeonnam Provincial University campus.
Jeonnam Provincial University plans to submit an integration application to the Ministry of Education in December.
If the integration is approved by April 2025 and the two universities are merged, it is expected to emerge as the largest flagship national university in Jeonnam. The integration is anticipated to significantly contribute to regional development and campus revitalization by expanding educational infrastructure and improving living conditions.
Acting President Jang Heon-beom emphasized that university integration is more than just a physical merger; it involves utilizing the strengths of both universities to establish a foundation for coexistence with the local community. He stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure that the integrated university sets a new standard for higher education in Jeonnam and becomes a model of co-prosperity with the local community.”
