Jeju Airport cancellations keep coming… Children are disappointed by nationwide heavy rains on festival day.

On May 5th, due to heavy rain in the evening on Jeju Island, a significant number of flights departing from and arriving at Jeju Airport were canceled. According to the Korea Airports Corporation, as of noon on that day, a total of 40 flights to and from Jeju Airport (20 departures and 20 arrivals) were canceled.

Most of the canceled flights were those scheduled after 3 p.m. The airport authorities explained that the cancellations were due to deteriorating weather conditions at both Jeju Airport and Gimhae Airport.

Currently, a high wind warning is in effect for mountainous areas of Jeju Island, and a wind advisory is in effect for areas outside the mountains. A sudden wind alert is also in effect at Jeju Airport.

The Korea Meteorological Administration warned that abnormal flight operations at Jeju Airport due to strong winds and sudden changes in wind conditions could be expected until the early hours of May 6th, urging airport users to check flight information in advance. In addition to Jeju, heavy rain advisories and warnings have been issued for many regions across the country.

The heavy rain that fell nationwide on this day led to the cancellation of most professional baseball games, dampening the festive atmosphere of Children’s Day. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) canceled all four games scheduled for that day, resulting in the second consecutive year of rain cancellations on Children’s Day.
