Interview with Metropolitan Council Candidates Begins: “We Will Fairly Assess and Select Suitable Candidates”

The preliminary candidates attending the Democratic Party’s interview for the Seoul mayoral candidacy are shown in the image. The Democratic Party has begun interviewing preliminary candidates for metropolitan mayor positions, with 100 days remaining until the June 3 local elections.

The Democratic Party’s Nomination Management Committee held its second meeting this morning at the central party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and commenced its first interview evaluation with six candidates for the Seoul mayoral seat.

Kim I-soo, the chair of the committee, stated at the meeting, “We will act under three principles: fairness, strict management, and a very rational and equitable result,” adding, “Based on the Democratic Party’s systematic nomination process, we will conduct the committee operations and select the most suitable candidate.”

The six candidates attending the Seoul mayoral interview were Kim Young-bae, Kim Hyung-nam, Park Jumin, Park Hong-geun, Jeon Hyun-hee, and Jung Won-oh.

Representative Kim Young-bae emphasized his candidacy as being well-rounded in administration, politics, and global matters. Former executive director of the Military Human Rights Center, Kim Hyung-nam, expressed his vision of making Seoul a city where many people can live together without being marginalized.

Representative Park Jumin stressed the need to ensure opportunities and dreams for all citizens of Seoul, while Representative Park Hong-geun mentioned his efforts to reclaim Seoul as a stepping stone to establishing a new people’s sovereignty government.

Representative Jeon Hyun-hee stated her intention to use her career and experience to build a happy Seoul for its citizens. Jung Won-oh, the head of Seongdong District Office, expressed his ambition to create a Seoul where taxes are well-spent and to work together with citizens for the global G2 city of Seoul.

The nomination committee plans to continue interviewing key metropolitan mayoral candidates over two days, starting with Seoul.
