On December 9, senior lawmakers of the People Power Party agreed that Choo Kyung-ho, who resigned as floor leader after the impeachment proposal against President Yoon Suk-yeol was dismissed, should be re-nominated.

The senior members of the People Power Party, with four or more terms, gathered at the National Assembly in the morning to discuss current issues.

After the meeting, Representative Kwon Young-se told reporters, “There is a saying that you don’t change a commander during a war,” adding, “In this very difficult situation, there was a consensus that it would be good for Floor Leader Choo, who has managed to lead well so far, to continue despite the challenges.”

Representative Kwon Sung-dong emphasized, “The consensus reached today is that Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho should continue to fulfill his duties.” He led the discussion on re-confirming Choo after he announced his resignation on the 7th.

Representative Na Kyung-won also stated, “We have gathered opinions to have Choo Kyung-ho continue as floor leader.” Representative Park Deok-heum conveyed the atmosphere, saying, “We decided to try to persuade Floor Leader Choo.”

However, Representative Cho Kyung-tae urged, “The important issue is not Floor Leader Choo’s re-confirmation but the question of the president’s position,” calling for a statement on President Yoon’s stance.

Representative Kim Tae-ho also explained, “The next 2 or 3 days are the most crucial period,” and highlighted the need to present more concrete plans to the public, including the timeline for President Yoon’s resignation.

The meeting was attended by all senior members except Ahn Cheol-soo, who is in his fourth term. The attending members included fourth-term lawmakers Park Deok-heum, Han Ki-ho, Lee Heon-seung, Kim Sang-hoon, Yoon Jae-ok, Park Dae-chul, Lee Jong-bae, Kim Do-eup, and Kim Tae-ho. Fifth-term lawmakers Na Kyung-won, Kwon Young-se, Kim Ki-hyun, Kwon Sung-dong, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Cho Bae-sook, as well as sixth-term lawmakers Cho Kyung-tae and Joo Ho-young, were also present.
