On the first episode of MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Motel California’, aired on the 10th, Ji Kang-hee (played by Lee Se-young) and Cheon Yeon-soo (played by Na In-woo) meet again.
On this day, Ji Kang-hee decides to leave her hometown in the year she turns twenty. Cheon Yeon-soo, upon hearing that Ji Kang-hee is leaving for Seoul, heads to the motel where she is staying.
Cheon Yeon-soo looked at Ji Kang-hee, and Ji Kang-hee asked, “Yeon-soo, do you want to sleep with me?” She continued, “Once I leave, you’ll meet and love other women. I want to be your first.” Overwhelmed by Ji Kang-hee’s seduction, Cheon Yeon-soo kisses her and they make love.
Several years pass after Ji Kang-hee leaves her hometown. Cheon Yeon-soo, who used to weigh over 120 kg, becomes a handsome local veterinarian, while Ji Kang-hee pursues her dream of becoming a designer.
During this time, she meets Hwang Jung-gu, an executive at an interior construction site, who takes an interest in her and scouts her as an intern.
Coincidentally, Cheon Yeon-soo also comes to Seoul. He wonders, “Will I be able to recognize Ji Kang-hee if I meet her?” still yearning for his first love. The next day, he instantly recognizes Ji Kang-hee at a café. Shocked, he follows her but she vanishes.
Ji Kang-hee prepares an interior design draft as per a client’s request but faces prejudice. Dubbed “B-grade design” and “country bumpkin,” she quits the company out of anger.
Both Cheon Yeon-soo and Ji Kang-hee reminisce about their childhood memories together, missing each other. Ji Kang-hee says, “This is driving me crazy. I keep thinking of you whenever it snows.”
At that moment, Cheon Yeon-soo hears that his grandfather is in critical condition and rushes to the hospital. Ji Chun-pil advises, “Give your grandfather a proper farewell.” Cheon Yeon-soo mourns his grandfather’s passing and stands vigil at his funeral.
Ji Kang-hee also attends the funeral. As soon as Cheon Yeon-soo sees her, he embraces her and cries, “My grandfather passed away, Kang-hee.” Surprised by Cheon Yeon-soo’s transformation, Ji Kang-hee is taken aback.
