[Herald Economy = Yang Dae-geun] Hyundai Steel announced on the 23rd that it held the ‘3rd Symposium on Steel By-product Utilization for Construction Materialization’ at the COEX Magok Convention Center in Seoul on the 20th.
The symposium was organized to share technologies for utilizing steel by-products with high potential value as construction materials and to strengthen cooperation with related organizations in response to the growing demand for carbon reduction and resource recycling across the industry.
The event was attended by more than 100 experts from academia and related industries, including Hyundai Steel, the Korea Iron & Steel Association, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Ssangyong C&E, and the Korea Expressway Corporation Road Traffic Research Institute.
Participants gathered to discuss the superiority of using steel by-products as construction materials, predict changes in the utilization of steel by-products in the steel and construction sectors, and explored ways to collaborate by sharing technology development cases from related institutions and organizations.
In particular, Hyundai Steel introduced the utilization plan for slag resulting from changes in carbon reduction processes during the event. Presenters from related organizations also gave presentations on various topics, such as the current status and prospects of recycling steel by-products and future challenges, leading to a heated expert discussion.
Hyundai Steel’s Process Research Center Director Kim Yong-hee stated, “Utilizing steel by-products can contribute to carbon reduction in construction technology and the development of the construction industry,” and added, “We will lead the way in practical technology commercialization and policy improvement through industry-academia-research cooperation.”
