Hyundai Glovis and Ecopro join hands to manage battery recycling supply chain

Hyundai Glovis recently announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding with the secondary battery material company EcoPro to collaborate on battery recycling business, according to a statement released on the 3rd.

Under this agreement, they will work together on various aspects of the battery recycling process, including front and back-end operations after use in electric vehicles, as well as manufacturing and logistics automation solutions. They have agreed to strengthen the value chain of recycling businesses domestically and internationally, while also collaborating on automating processes to enhance efficiency.

To expand their battery recycling business, Hyundai Glovis will utilize domestic and international logistics networks and oversee the preprocessing stage, while EcoPro will be responsible for the post-processing sector. The preprocessing stage involves discharging the remaining power in used batteries physically, dismantling them, and removing impurities, eventually producing black powder as a cathode material. Post-processing involves extracting valuable metals directly from the secured raw materials.

Lee Kyu-bok, CEO of Hyundai Glovis, stated, “Through this agreement, we will be able to optimize the recycling business operation system and establish a recycling process.”
