HFR, a specialized company in information and communication networking, announced on the 12th that it will participate as a joint research and development institution with ETRI in developing core technology for low-earth orbit satellite communication payloads based on 6G international standards.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute recently confirmed the lead agencies and major participants for the ‘6G Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Communication System Development’ project. This project aims to develop practical-level low-earth communication satellites, ground stations, and terminal stations using domestic technology by 2030, with a total investment of 320 billion KRW.
HFR showcased a technology and product that combines its subsidiary HFR Mobile’s 5G private network with SpaceX’s low-earth orbit satellite communication Starlink at MWC 2025, attracting attention from many people and the industry. ABI Research, an international market insights firm, recently included this in their white paper titled “Inside the Orbit of Innovation.”
A representative from HFR expressed their commitment, stating, “We will fulfill our role with the support of valuable national R&D funds and lead the way to commercialization.”
Meanwhile, according to Global Market Insights, the 2032 market size for 6G mobile satellite payloads is expected to reach 17 billion dollars, with an average annual growth rate of 25%.
