HD Hyundai discusses ‘mutual cooperation plans’ with Vietnam’s General Secretary

The text discusses HD Hyundai’s plans to expand its collaboration with Vietnam in the shipbuilding sector, which is seen as a key location for overseas ship construction. The company attended a business conference led by the visiting Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam to discuss potential cooperation strategies.

During the event, HD Hyundai’s CEO, Kim Sung-joon, emphasized the importance of Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry for the sustainable growth of South Korea’s shipbuilding sector and its value chain. He expressed HD Hyundai’s commitment to its operations in Vietnam and requested the Vietnamese government’s support, including extending project durations from 50 to 70 years to ensure stable operation of HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding.

Furthermore, HD Hyundai signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Vietnam’s largest state-owned shipping company, Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), to pursue comprehensive collaboration in shipbuilding. This agreement covers various areas such as promoting the development of Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry, expanding and modernizing VIMC’s fleet.

Prior to the business meeting, the Korea-Vietnam Business Forum was attended by over 400 business representatives from both countries. Kim went on to present the achievements and future vision of shipbuilding cooperation between HD Hyundai and Vietnam.

HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding was initially established in 1996 as a joint venture with a Vietnamese state-owned enterprise. It is the largest shipyard in Southeast Asia, equipped with large-scale facilities including two docks, a 1.3 km long quay, a hull factory, an assembly plant, and a painting factory. Kim affirmed the company’s dedication to continued investment to strengthen mutual cooperation with Vietnam.
