, Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, welcomed the Democratic Party’s agreement to abolish the financial investment income tax (FIIT).

, On the 4th, speaking with reporters at the National Assembly, Han stated, “The abolition of the FIIT has been one of the persistent people’s livelihood policies advocated by our People Power Party. Although the Democratic Party was late, we welcome their decision to fully join in the abolition of the FIIT.”

, Han further commented, “There is no partisan divide in people’s livelihoods. Given the significant difficulties facing South Korea’s capital market, we must not stop at this point but implement a variety of policies to enhance the value of the capital market and attract investors to the domestic market.”

, He added, “I self-appraise that this might be a rare moment where politics has functioned because the Democratic Party has made a rational judgment.”

, Earlier, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, stated during the Supreme Council meeting that day, “We have decided to agree to the government and ruling party’s push to abolish the FIIT. According to principles and values, it might be right to proceed even with associated difficulties, but we cannot ignore the position of 15 million stock investors during the current tough state of South Korea’s stock market.”
