The first trial of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is charged with aiding insurrection, is set to conclude its hearing procedures this week, with a verdict expected in January next year.

As this represents the court’s first judgment on the insurrection case, it is expected to serve as a benchmark for other related cases.

– “Since the warrant is issued as a coercive measure, the individual’s intention is not considered.”

Today marks the eleventh hearing, and in the final hearing scheduled for the day after tomorrow, the special prosecution on insurrection is expected to present its sentencing recommendation, followed by former Prime Minister Han’s final statement.

A first instance verdict is expected by the end of January next year, approximately six months after the trial began.

As this is the first court ruling for a cabinet member charged with insurrection, it is anticipated to influence other ongoing insurrection trials.

In another courtroom today, the trial concerning former President Yoon Suk-yeol as the leader of the insurrection will also take place.

Former Counterintelligence Commander Yeon In-hyung is set to testify regarding the list of politicians targeted for arrest during last year’s emergency martial law.

Previously, former President Yoon clashed during trial with former NIS Deputy Director Hong Jang-won over the arrest list.
