The ‘Jeonnam Eco-friendly Agriculture Award’ is a system that selects outstanding cities, counties, and farmers by comprehensively evaluating the expansion of certified eco-friendly agricultural products, the establishment of agricultural product safety management systems, and the achievements of sustainable agriculture focused on organic farming.
Haenam County is recognized for significantly increasing the newly certified areas through diversification of items and the creation of eco-friendly agricultural complexes using reclaimed land.
According to the county, last year, Haenam County’s eco-friendly agricultural certification area reached 4,940 hectares, the largest scale in the nation. This included 2,496 hectares of organic farming and 2,444 hectares of pesticide-free farming, reflecting an increase of 476 hectares compared to the previous year. In the low-carbon agriculture sector, it also recorded a certification area of 1,089 hectares, achieving the highest result nationwide.
Haenam County reduced the production burden on farms and established a stable management foundation through the organization and commercialization of eco-friendly agriculture. It expanded certifications beyond rice cultivation to include 98 items such as fruits and vegetables, with 47% of the total certified area, or 2,339 hectares, converted to fruits and vegetables, achieving qualitative growth in local agriculture.
In the individual category, achievements continued. In the livestock sector, Mr. Lee Hang-rim in Haenam-eup was awarded the top prize for his eco-friendly and low-carbon livestock practices.
A county official stated, “This award is the result of the efforts of farmers practicing eco-friendly agriculture combined with the continuous support from the administration,” and added, “We will continue to expand support for the stable establishment of eco-friendly agriculture on the ground, focusing on the production of safe food and the sustainable development of agriculture.”
