Gyeonggi Province to Operate ‘Old Planned City Research Group’… Accelerating Maintenance Projects for First-Generation New Towns

Gyeonggi Province announced that it will form and operate an “Aging Planned City Research Group” to enhance the completion and speed of the first stage of new town reconstruction projects.

Under the Special Act on the Maintenance and Support of Aging Planned Cities, the reconstruction floor area ratios for five first-stage new towns in the province (Seongnam Bundang, Goyang Ilsan, Anyang Pyeongchon, Gunpo Sanbon, and Bucheon Jungdong) must be reviewed. The relevant city should prepare a basic plan, undergo resident review and local council opinion procedures, and finally receive review by the provincial Urban Planning Committee.

Previously, the province held Urban Planning Committee meetings on September 25 and October 15 to complete preliminary consultations on the basic maintenance plans for the five first-stage new towns.

With the preliminary consultations complete, the plan is to finish the basic maintenance plan review, which typically takes six months, by the end of December within two months.

The research group will investigate the feasibility and planning of infrastructure, set standard floor area ratios, improve residential environments, and propose alternatives if necessary for the rational establishment of maintenance basic plans.

The matters discussed in the research group will be used as main review materials by the Gyeonggi Province Urban Planning Committee.
