, Gyeonggi-do, for the first time in the country, will provide full rental deposit support for up to 8 years to self-reliant youths living in public rental housing of the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) with a total of 118 units.,
,
, “The province and GH announced on the 5th that applications for the ‘Housing Cost Support Project for Self-Reliant Youths’ will be accepted from the 28th.”,
,
, Self-reliant youths are those who leave child welfare facilities, group homes, or foster care systems once they turn 18 and start living independently. Approximately 260 young people fall into this category each year in Gyeonggi-do.,
,
, The province established this project to alleviate housing insecurity for self-reliant youths, who often struggle to gather a lump sum of money initially. A supplementary budget of 830 million KRW was allocated for the project in 2024, and 400 million KRW was allocated in the main budget for 2025.,
,
, The support targets not only youths leaving child welfare facilities but also those leaving youth shelters and other youth welfare facilities. Priority would be given to existing tenants, and additional budget may be secured if necessary.,
,
, To apply for the ‘Housing Cost Support Project for Self-Reliant Youths,’ one must first be selected as a tenant in public rental housing by the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation. Applications can be submitted online via the GH Housing Subscription Center for happy housing, through continuous visit applications at the Home Loan Housing Supply Center for purchase rental housing, and by visiting the administrative welfare center for chartered rental housing.,
,
, After tenant selection, applicants can receive full support for the standard rental deposit by submitting an application for the ‘Housing Cost Support Project for Self-Reliant Youths’ and signing a lease agreement that specifies the support amount.,
,
, Additionally, the province is implementing policies to minimize self-reliant youths’ personal financial burdens and promote independence, including temporary special support for youth rent, housing benefits, and material support. The temporary special support for youth rent provides up to 200,000 KRW per month for up to 24 months to qualified youth, such as those with housing savings accounts, who apply online or at a local administrative welfare center. Households with less than 48% of median income can apply for housing benefits (rent support) at the administrative welfare center, and self-reliant youths living in GH’s chartered rental housing can receive up to 1 million KRW of furniture and appliance support through a living support program.,
,
, Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, “We will actively support self-reliant youths so they can develop and grow their dreams using a stable living environment as a base while taking their first steps into society.”,
