“Gwangju City announced on the 23rd that Gwangju Jungang High School has been finally selected for the Ministry of Education’s project ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’. Starting from March next year, Gwangju Jungang High School plans to operate its own unique programs through autonomous courses and specialized career programs to provide personalized education for students.
Furthermore, the school plans to establish a digital-based smart learning environment to create a safe and student-centered space. Through this selection, Gwangju Jungang High School will receive a total budget of 10 billion won over five years, with annual support of 2 billion won from the Ministry of Education and the Education Office. In addition, the city plans to provide separate administrative and financial support for operating the autonomous public high school to support public education innovation and regional education development.
The city expects that with the selection of Gwangju Jungang High School as an autonomous public high school, it will be able to play a leading role in public education by offering an autonomous educational curriculum that reflects local characteristics. Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “With this selection of an autonomous public high school, the foundation has been laid for the development of Gwangju City’s local public education,” and expressed his intention to strive to become a leading education city by enhancing collaboration with Gwangju Hanam Education Support Agency and Gwangju Jungang High School.”
