Guro District in Seoul operates a “Memory Test Accompanied by Local Residents” for dementia prevention.

[Reporter Kim In-hee, Dailyan] Guro District in Seoul (Mayor Jang In-hong) announced on the 16th that it will operate memory tests (dementia screening tests) accompanied by local residents to prevent dementia among the elderly in the area until July.

This year’s tests, which started in February, focus on elderly residents over 75 who live alone and are reaching the age of 75. Residents over 60 who have not been diagnosed with dementia or mild cognitive impairment, as well as those who have not had a dementia screening test for over a year, can also be tested.

The tests are conducted at the local community centers, and test subjects can receive dementia prevention education alongside the dementia screening test (CIST). Elderly individuals suspected of cognitive decline based on test results will be connected to additional diagnostic tests.

Additionally, local visiting nurses participate in the dementia screening tests, offering preventive healthcare services such as blood pressure and blood sugar measurements and health consultations to the elderly who come for the tests.

In June, tests will be conducted in Guro 3-dong, Gocheok 1-dong, Gaebong 3-dong, Guro 1-dong, and in July, they will take place in Garibong-dong, Guro 4-dong, and Oryu 2-dong.

For detailed information on the schedule of dementia screening tests by district and other inquiries, please contact the Health Promotion Department of Guro District Health Center at ☎ 02-860-3273.

Mayor Jang In-hong of Guro District said, “Early detection and prevention of dementia are extremely important,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that residents can live healthily without worrying about dementia.”
