Geumcheon-gu’s ‘Malkkeun Nuri Small Library’ to Expand Weekend Operations

Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced the expansion of operating hours for Malgeunnuri Small Library on weekends, now open from 10 AM to 5 PM, to improve the reading environment and convenience for local residents. Newly established in Geumbit Park on February 6 this year, the library serves as a multifunctional cultural space where visitors can enjoy reading in harmony with nature.

Starting April 1, the library will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM, with only Mondays closed. Previously, it was closed on Mondays and Sundays and operated on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2:30 PM. Weekday hours remain Tuesday to Friday from 10 AM to 8 PM.

The library features a full glass window wall allowing users to enjoy the park’s scenery while reading. It houses over 10,000 books across various fields, as well as reading rooms and club rooms, with plans to hold reading programs and outdoor theater movie screenings.

Yoo Sung-hoon, the District Mayor, stated, “We extended the weekend operating hours of the library to provide more reading opportunities for citizens who can’t visit during weekdays and to allow them to enjoy books in a relaxed environment. We will continue to actively support the expansion of the reading culture.”

Meanwhile, the district is enhancing the role of ‘small libraries’ beyond being mere reading spaces to becoming hubs of community interaction. They are strengthening cooperation with residents’ councils and running customized local programs. Additionally, all 12 public small libraries have professional librarians to provide a quality reading environment to the community.
