Hyundai Motor announced on the 26th that its electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, has been listed in the Guinness World Records for the “Highest Altitude Gain by an Electric Car.” The Ioniq 5 successfully completed a journey with a total altitude difference of 5,802 meters over 14 days, from “Umling La” in northern India, known as the world’s highest motorable road at 5,799 meters above sea level, to Kuttanad in southern India, which is at -3 meters below sea level. Notably, the Ioniq 5 overcame the harsh driving conditions, including freezing temperatures in the Himalayas and the humid climate of Kerala’s coastal region.
Kim Eon-su, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor’s India and Middle East Operations, expressed pride in making new history, stating, “The performance of the Ioniq 5 is a result of Hyundai’s technological prowess, and we will continue to make every effort to provide new mobility experiences under the vision of ‘Progress for Humanity.'”
The Ioniq 5 is the first dedicated electric vehicle developed on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform. It has been recognized for its outstanding marketability, having been named “World Car of the Year 2022,” “German Car of the Year 2022,” “UK Car of the Year 2022,” and “Japan Import Car of the Year 2022.”
