Former President Park Geun-hye visited the birthplace to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Yuk Young-soo, the former First Lady.

Former President Park Geun-hye visited her mother’s birth home in Okcheon, North Chungcheong, a day before the 50th anniversary of her mother’s passing. On the 14th, she toured the home with her mother’s passing. According to sources from the political circle on the 15th, Park viewed photos inside and near the birth home for about 20 minutes with Yoo Young-ha, a lawmaker of the People Power Party, and local lawmaker Park Deok-heum. She also exchanged pleasantries with residents gathered at the home, advising them to take care of their health in the summer heat.

Last year on August 15th, former President Park visited her father, former President Park Chung-hee’s birth home in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

The Yook Ye Memorial Foundation holds a memorial service for Yook Ye at the National Seoul National Cemetery every August 15th. Yook Ye died on August 15, 1974, during an event to commemorate the Liberation Day at the National Theater of Korea in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, where she was shot and killed by a North Korean spy, Mun Se-gwang.
