The father of the late actor Jang Jin-young, Jang Kil-nam, who served as the director of the Gyeam Scholarship Foundation, has passed away at the age of 89.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 17th, it was reported by the deceased’s family that Director Jang passed away around 2 p.m. on the 16th. It is said that on the day of his passing, he had visited the ‘Jang Jin-young Memorial Hall’ in Unam-myeon, Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do, where he stumbled and experienced a sudden change in his condition. This incident has brought about a sense of sadness.
The deceased’s mortuary is located in room 301 of the Jeonju Citizens’ Funeral Culture Center. The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m., and the burial site is in Seonyeong, Unam-myeon, Imsil-gun, where his daughter Jang Jin-young is buried.
Born in Gwangju in 1935, the deceased ran a wastewater treatment product company, Samhwa Chemical, in Jeonju. Survived by two daughters, he experienced the sorrow of losing his second daughter, actress Jang Jin-young, to stomach cancer in September 2009. In response to his daughter’s last wish, he donated 50 million won in scholarship funds to the vice principal of his daughter’s alma mater, Jeonju Central High School, in September of that year. This led him to establish the Gyeam Scholarship Foundation named after his daughter in March 2010, actively engaging in scholarship activities. He drew attention when he donated 500 million won to the Uiseok Foundation in January of last year.
In May 2011, he set up the ‘Jang Jin-young Memorial Hall’ in Sayang-ri, Unam-myeon, Imsil-gun, for his daughter and personally managed it. It was known that he was in the midst of preparing for his daughter’s 15th anniversary event scheduled for September on the day of his death.
