A large fire has broken out at the USFK 55th Supply Depot located in Busan, and the fire department has issued a Level 2 response to extinguish it.
According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, the fire started at a cold storage warehouse at the USFK 55th Supply Depot in Dong-gu, Busan at around 6:31 PM. The fire authorities initially issued a Level 1 response about 20 minutes after the report, but escalated it to a Level 2 response at around 7:55 PM.
A Level 1 response involves deploying staff and equipment from the responsible fire station, while a Level 2 response involves mobilizing personnel and equipment from 5-6 fire stations, including those from neighboring districts. At the fire site, 51 pieces of equipment and about 160 personnel are working on extinguishing the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby warehouses.
The fire is suspected to have started on the first floor of the cold storage warehouse during piping and other construction work. No casualties have been reported so far. It is also reported that construction materials, urethane, rubber, and other items are stored inside the warehouse.
