On the evening of the 25th, at around 10:08 PM, a fire broke out in a four-story motel building located in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, injuring 18 people.
According to the Fire Department on the 26th, when the fire started the previous day, they issued a Level 1 response at 10:13 PM due to concerns over potential casualties and began extinguishing the fire. They confirmed there were people trapped inside and issued a Level 2 response at 10:19 PM.
A person, identified as A, was found in a state of cardiac arrest inside a room on the second floor and was transported to a nearby hospital. It is reported that A’s heart started beating again after CPR, reaching a state of spontaneous circulation and is currently receiving treatment. Besides A, two other individuals showed symptoms of respiratory distress and were classified as seriously injured but are not in life-threatening condition.
Additionally, 15 people sustained minor injuries, such as smoke inhalation, bringing the total number of injured to 18 so far.
The fire authorities dispatched 40 pieces of equipment and 120 personnel, and successfully extinguished the fire completely by 10:47 PM.
The motel where the fire broke out is a single building with a total area of 889 square meters, consisting of four floors and about 20 guest rooms. The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
