(Seoul=News1) Reporter Ahn Tae-hyun = MBC’s program ‘TodayN’ has come under fire for the attitude of its production staff.
In the episode of MBC’s cultural show ‘TodayN’ aired on the 1st, the life of an elderly individual living in a remote area of Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was featured. This elder had returned to his hometown after engaging in real estate work in Gyeongju.
While introducing the three houses he built himself, the elderly man showcased a mud house, a music room, and homegrown oyster mushrooms.
The attitude of the PD filming this segment became an issue. When the elder remarked, “Many people go for mud treatments, don’t they?” while introducing the mud house, the PD responded with, “I never go, I’m not at the age to appreciate mud houses yet.” Furthermore, when the elder, who was playing the drums, said, “As you age, you need to move your hands and feet well,” the PD humorously but curtly replied, “You can just work in the fields, can’t you?”
The PD also commented, when the elder introduced the homegrown oyster mushrooms by saying, “You can’t find these in Seoul, I’ll pack some for you when I visit Seoul,” with, “They have them in Seoul markets too.”
Before serving homemade grilled chicken, the PD jokingly said, “I only like chicken if it’s fried.” Later, when lying in the mud house or eating the grilled chicken, the PD showed expressions of satisfaction rather than the previous curt demeanor, but viewers criticized the PD’s attitude.
On the ‘TodayN’ viewer board, reactions included “The PD is rude and lacks manners” and “The attitude was inappropriate for a broadcast, it was uncomfortable to see someone treat others so dismissively.”
One netizen stated, “The PD’s attitude toward the elderly was very disrespectful,” and questioned, “Are you belittling the elder just because he’s spending his retirement in a house he built in the mountains?”
Another netizen expressed surprise saying, “I was shocked to see the PD respond snarkily and without manners to every word the grandfather said, and even more so that this aired without edits.”
