Detection of Stealth with Quantum Technology: Ministry of Science and ICT & Air Force Collaborate on New Weapon Development

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Air Force announced on the 20th that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation in the field of quantum science and technology at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The two institutions agreed to collaborate in developing advanced weapon systems using quantum science and technology, such as GPS-free navigation, stealth detection, and the neutralization of military encryption systems, as well as to address export controls. The Ministry of Science and ICT will provide the Air Force with quantum science and technology consultations and infrastructure for raising demands on weapon systems applications. The Air Force will consider including quantum technology applications when making demands for weapon systems.

Ryu Je-myung, the Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, expressed expectations for the activation of advanced weapon system development using quantum science and technology, anticipating strengthened national defense and the achievement of self-reliance in quantum science and technology. Air Force Chief of Staff Son Seok-rak stated his commitment to focusing efforts on securing challenging and innovative technologies, such as quantum radar and manned-unmanned complex combat systems, to achieve supremacy in future battlefields.
