President Yoon Suk-yeol was reportedly placed in a solitary cell in the general inmate ward of the Seoul Detention Center last evening (19th), according to correctional authorities.
Shin Yong-hae, Director of the Correctional Bureau at the Ministry of Justice, stated during a National Assembly legislative committee inquiry that President Yoon was assigned to one of the rooms used by general inmates. He added that the cell’s size is similar to those used by former presidents, approximately 3.6 to 3.7 pyeong (about 12-13 square meters).
Director Shin further mentioned that President Yoon underwent official detention procedures, including mugshot photography and physical examination, following his arrest. He cooperated with the procedures without any particular resistance.
Additionally, Director Shin emphasized that they are working closely with the police and the Presidential Security Service to ensure thorough perimeter security. He reassured that, despite any talks among radical supporters about removing the president from the detention center, such an event would not occur.
