Confirmed cases of Omicron also reported in the Philippines… “No record of overseas travel”

Last May, health experts from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Goma, the Democratic Republic of Congo, explained symptoms of monkeypox to children. The patient confirmed with monkeypox in the Philippines is a 33-year-old Filipino male who tested positive through PCR testing, with no history of travel outside the country. The symptoms started over a week ago with fever, followed by a distinct rash on the face, back, neck, torso, groin, palms, and soles of the feet four days later. This is the first case of monkeypox in the Philippines this year, with no reported cases since the ninth patient in December last year. Previously, Sweden reported its first case of monkeypox outside of Africa, and Pakistan also had a case where the patient had returned from a Middle Eastern country. The World Health Organization declared a public health emergency due to the rapid spread of monkeypox in Africa. Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus, presenting symptoms similar to the flu and progressing to filled blisters. It mainly spreads through contact with symptomatic infected patients, animals, and contaminated environments.
