Comedian Kim Hye-sun Suddenly Retires from Broadcasting: “Severe Depression Due to Identity Confusion” (‘Morning Yard’)

Comedian Kim Hye-sun explained why she abruptly quit broadcasting.

On the episode of KBS1’s ‘Morning Yard’ aired on the 13th, comedian Kim Hye-sun and her husband Stefan appeared on the ‘Tuesday Interview’ segment.

Kim Hye-sun gained recognition through ‘My Girlfriend is a Gumiho’. Watching the video at that time, Stefan remarked, “It’s scary,” and Kim Hye-sun joked, “If I feel like we might argue, I’ll just show him that video.” She shared, “I came up with the corner idea myself. It wasn’t an idea I thought of from the start, but after I got accepted, I waited, and the opportunity didn’t come. I realized I had to do it on my own, so I thought about how I could get noticed. I wanted to create an irreplaceable character, and that’s how it was born.”

She continued, “I don’t like exercise and have an introverted personality, but doing that corner brought confusion to my identity. People who exercise would touch my arms and ask about workout methods. As I felt like I was losing myself, I became more depressed and took a break from broadcasting. I didn’t have the leeway to feel anxious about being forgotten. The depression and stress grew, leading me to leave with negative thoughts about quitting broadcasting, but I have returned to it.”

She chose Germany as the place to leave because of a close friend, and there, she fatefully met her husband, Stefan.
