
▲ Suspect Choi Yoon-jong in the ‘Sinrim-dong Hiking Trail Sexual Assault Murder Case’
‘Suspect Choi Yoon-jong, who indiscriminately assaulted and murdered a woman with no prior acquaintance for the purpose of sexual assault on a hiking trail in Seoul’s Gwanak-gu, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the second trial.’
‘The Seoul High Court Criminal Division 14-3 rejected appeals from both sides, stating, “The life imprisonment imposed by the lower court does not seem light or heavy.”‘
‘Previously, the prosecution sought the death penalty in the second trial as well, similar to the first trial.’
‘Choi Yoon-jong was indicted on charges of committing sexual assault with the intention of murder on victim A by indiscriminately assaulting her with knuckledusters on the hiking trail in Sinrim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, on August 17 last year, strangling her for at least three minutes or more until she died.’
‘The victim was left unattended at the scene for about 20 minutes before being transferred to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but she passed away two days later.’
