To respond to the tariff war declared by U.S. President Donald Trump, Chairman Chey Tae-won of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (and also Chairman of SK Group) led a trade outreach delegation to the U.S. on February 19.
According to business sources, Chairman Chey met with reporters at Gimpo International Airport that morning and stated, “I plan to meet with U.S. government officials.”
Regarding the response to the tariff imposed by the Trump administration, he reserved his comments, saying, “It would be better to speak after the visit.”
When asked about the opinion that Korean semiconductors are in crisis, Chairman Chey briefly commented, “There are both crises and opportunities.”
The trade outreach delegation, consisting of chief executives (CEOs) from the top 20 domestic business groups, will officially visit Washington, D.C., from February 19–20 (local time).
In addition to Chairman Chey, the delegation is composed of 26 members including Hyosung Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang, Samsung Electronics President Kim Won-kyung, SK On Vice Chairman Yoo Jeong-joon, SK Supex Communication Committee Chairman Lee Hyung-hee, Hyundai Motor President Seong Kim, LG Global Strategy Development Institute Director Yoon Chang-reol, POSCO International President Lee Gye-in, Lotte Holdings Communication Director Lim Seong-bok, Hanwha Futureproof President Joo Young-joon, Kakao Brand Communication Committee Chairman Lee Na-ri, and Shinsegae Vice President Kim Min-kyu.
They are set to meet with senior officials from the White House and key members of Congress to discuss trade policies and explore strategic collaboration and U.S. investment plans between the two countries.
