Actor Choi Hyun-wook is becoming an icon of controversy, despite being expected to be in the news for good reasons.
On the 9th, Choi Hyun-wook was the ceremonial first pitcher for the first game of the postseason semi-playoffs held at Incheon SSG Landers Field. The ball he threw dangerously flew over the head of the young child who was the ceremonial batter. He left the field after only greeting the fans without apologizing to the child batter. The mother of the batter commented, “I believed it would be conducted safely, but looking back, it was a close call.” Later, Choi stated on a fan platform that he was trying to contact the child or the parents to apologize either today or tomorrow, but the response was cold.
Last year, he was involved in an unexpected controversy. In November, he uploaded a photo on his SNS of a Bearbrick figure he purchased, in which his naked reflection was visible. He quickly realized the oversight and deleted the photo, but it had already spread rapidly across online communities.
Two years ago, he faced issues for smoking on the street and indiscriminately discarding cigarette butts. At the time, his agency Gold Medalist acknowledged the inappropriate disposal of the cigarette and the discomfort it may have caused and expressed that Choi was sincerely reflecting on his actions. Consequently, complaints were filed with the relevant local government, the Gangnam-gu office in Seoul, resulting in a fine.
