As the start of Trump’s second term is just a week away, Acting President Choi Sang-mok assessed that the rapid policy implementation of the new U.S. administration will have a significant impact on the South Korean economy.
Acting President Choi held an external economic issues meeting this morning (13th) at the Seoul Government Complex and stated, “The government will establish response plans in close cooperation with companies and economic organizations and engage in active communication and consultation with the National Assembly.”
He further urged related departments to do their utmost to ensure that economic cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. remains solid based on the robust fundamentals of the Korean economy, even with the inauguration of the new American administration.
Today’s meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Deok-geun, head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination Bang Gi-sun, and Trade Negotiation Director Jung In-kyo.
Since presiding over the first external economic issues meeting on the 6th, Acting President Choi has decided to hold regular meetings every Monday to discuss countermeasures for trade issues related to the inauguration of the Trump administration’s second term.
