Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the G7-related meetings held in Canada.
Minister Cho attended the expanded session on maritime and energy security of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada, on the 12th local time. During this meeting, he was seen speaking with Secretary Rubio, who was also present.
There is speculation that Minister Cho might have discussed the joint fact sheet from the Korea-U.S. summit held on the 29th of last month, as its release has been delayed.
However, Minister Cho did not hold a formal meeting with Secretary Rubio and met with several other ministers, including those from Canada.
In his meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Cho emphasized his hope that Korea will contribute to Canada’s future submarine projects and the strengthening of security and defense goals.
He discussed ways to elevate bilateral relations with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and expressed to Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente his hope that Korea would be excluded from future proposed tariff hikes.
Minister Cho also held talks with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
