“Are Korean Series tickets 95,000 won? That’s cheap,” said a swindler in his 20s who tricked 25 baseball fans.

A scammer who posed as a seller of professional baseball Korean Series tickets has been caught by the police. According to the Dongbu Police Station in Daegu, they have arrested and are investigating a suspect, identified as “A” in their 20s, on fraud charges for deceiving 25 baseball fans through an online secondhand trading site. The suspect took 2.45 million KRW under the guise of selling tickets.

With the ongoing sell-out of Korean Series tickets, many people attempted to purchase tickets through person-to-person online transactions. “A” exploited the loopholes of remote transactions by posting as if they had the actual tickets, even though they had none. Police, concerned about the spread of such crimes during the Korean Series, conducted a swift and focused investigation over approximately a week, crossing Daegu and other regions, ultimately apprehending the suspect.

Superintendent Jang Ho-sik emphasized the need to refrain from buying tickets that have not been physically verified, as scams using online remote transactions are rampant amidst the heightened excitement of the Korean Series. He assured the public of strict action against crimes that disrupt the festive atmosphere, such as scams and ticket scalping, during the remainder of the series.

The police investigation revealed that suspect “A” set the ticket prices at over three times the normal price of around 30,000 KRW, charging 95,000 KRW per ticket, and received money from the victims.
