Bloomberg News reported that Apple’s flagship models, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, will be produced for the first time in India this year. According to the report, Apple’s major partner, Foxconn Technology, is set to begin assembling the latest products in the fall after their release, with thousands of employees undergoing training at a local factory in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The report mentioned that the local factory is rushing preparations for the production of the upcoming iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models ahead of their global release. Apple still primarily manufactures most of its iPhones in China, but is diversifying its production locations to mitigate risks associated with tensions between the US and China, among other reasons.
As a result of these efforts, Apple assembled iPhones worth $14 billion in India during the first half of the fiscal year ending in March 2024, accounting for 14% of its global production. The report also noted that iPhones are emerging as a symbol of the middle class in India, making the country an important market for Apple.
Currently, Apple’s revenue in India is nearing $8 billion, approximately 107 billion won.
