Ahn Kyoo-baek, the Minister of National Defense, will visit Japan from the 29th to the 31st and hold the Korea-Japan Defense Ministers’ Meeting with Shinjirō Koizumi, the Japanese Defense Minister. The Ministry of National Defense explained that this visit by Minister Ahn follows the agreement made during the Korea-Japan Defense Ministers’ Meeting held in Korea in September last year to promote personnel exchanges, including mutual visits by the defense ministers of the two countries.
On the 30th, during the Korea-Japan Defense Ministers’ Meeting in Yokosuka, Minister Ahn plans to discuss regional security situations and Korea-Japan defense exchange and cooperation. Additionally, he is scheduled to visit the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet Command and the National Defense Academy of Japan.
This visit by the Minister of National Defense marks the first official visit to Japan in 1 year and 6 months since July 2024.
