(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Chang-yong = The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy announced on the 20th that pet robots have been designated as a category eligible for national standard (KS) certification.
It is expected that robot companies will be able to obtain KS certification, offering consumers certified products they can trust.
The KS certification assesses functional performance, including interaction features such as voice and facial recognition, as well as responsiveness in emergency situations.
Furthermore, it scrutinizes safety elements by examining heat resistance in high-temperature environments, and fire resistance in case of a fire, among others.
In addition, the certification process evaluates the overall quality capabilities of a company, including process management, material management, and after-service responses (AS).
Director Kim Dae-ja of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards emphasized, “As of 2024, the domestic market for personal service robots is valued at 433 billion won, maintaining a stable growth rate of about 2.2% annually. Now is the time to transition from quantitative growth to qualitative growth.”
