President Kwon Myung-ho of Korea East-West Power Company (EWP) has bowed in apology on the eighth day following the boiler tower collapse accident at the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant. The incident, which occurred on November 6, resulted in the entrapment of seven workers out of nine present at the site. As of now, the bodies of six have been recovered, with one person still missing.
In his statement at the site on November 13, President Kwon expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and apologized to the public for the concern caused by the accident. He emphasized that all employees are focused on swiftly supporting the families and victims, as well as cleaning up the site, in collaboration with construction partners.
Kwon pledged to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and develop effective measures based on the findings. He also noted the necessity of decommissioning and dismantling outdated power facilities, vowing to reassess all procedures in the decommissioning process to prevent such tragedies from recurring and prioritize safety.
This official response from EWP came a week after the incident occurred.
