A man in his 40s who caused the death of a jaywalker after hitting them with his car has been found not guilty.

A driver who hit a pedestrian who had fallen on the road after being hit by a previous vehicle while jaywalking, causing the pedestrian’s death, has been acquitted.

The Seoul Central District Court acquitted a man in his 40s, identified as A, who was charged with violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Processing.

The court determined that it was difficult to consider that A could have foreseen the situation of passing over the victim and avoided it.

Last August around 9 p.m., a man in his 60s, identified as B, attempted jaywalking in Seoul’s Jongno-gu and was hit by a car. While lying on the road, B was hit again by an SUV driven by A and was transferred to the hospital but eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Prosecutors had brought A to trial, alleging that he was at fault for not paying proper attention.
