A female Korean university student in her 20s reportedly injured eight people with a hammer at a Japanese university, according to Japanese media. On the 10th, Kyodo News and NHK reported that 22-year-old female student A, who is studying at the Faculty of Sociology at Hosei University, swung a hammer at students during a class at the Tama Campus in Machida, Tokyo.
Due to A’s attack, eight university students in their 20s suffered bruises to their heads, foreheads, and arms. Five of them were transported to the hospital, while the remaining three received emergency treatment at the university’s clinic for head bleeding before being taken to the hospital. All eight victims sustained minor injuries and were reported to be conscious and able to communicate.
Witnesses reported that the incident occurred in a lecture hall with around 100 students attending the class. A student present at the scene told NHK, “About 30 minutes into the lecture, which started at 3:30 PM, there was a commotion at the back of the lecture hall, and people seemed to be fleeing. When I looked, I saw a female student swinging a hammer. It was a sudden event, and I was very surprised.”
A was restrained by university staff and handed over to the police, who arrested her at the scene on assault charges. During the police investigation, A stated, “I hit because I was frustrated from being ignored by the students,” and it was reported that she used a hammer she found at the school. The police revealed that A is a Korean national residing in Hachioji, Tokyo, and are investigating the details of the incident.
