The Naver Webtoon original “Nevertheless” to be released on Netflix in December.

Naver Webtoon’s video subsidiary ‘Studio N’ is set to release a Japanese remake of the Korean drama “Nevertheless,” originally based on a Naver webtoon, on December 9th via the Japanese OTT platform Abema and Netflix worldwide. The remake, titled “Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love,” is directed by acclaimed director Ryutaro Nakagawa and stars popular Japanese actor Ryusei Yokohama.

The original webtoon “Nevertheless” portrays the realistic romantic relationships of art university students, known for its detailed artwork and captivating characters. It has been serialized in multiple languages and accumulated 175 million global views. The Korean drama version, co-produced by Studio N and Studio SLL, was released in 2021 and appeared in the weekly top 10 series on Netflix in 33 regions.

Kwon Mi-kyung, CEO of Studio N, expressed her excitement about the project, emphasizing the opportunity to adapt the story to reflect Japanese culture and emotions. She also highlighted the company’s commitment to expanding global content production capabilities and the outreach of webtoon intellectual property.

Studio N has previously received acclaim for its Korean film remake of the Japanese novel “Dropped My Smartphone.” This year, the company has demonstrated its competency in webtoon-based production with popular projects like the animation “True Beauty,” “The Eight Show,” and the tvN drama “Mermaid Prince.” Additionally, they are working with Toei Animation to produce a series based on the Naver webtoon “The Gosu.”
