[Financial News] Naver announced on the 28th that the ‘Naver User Protection and Self-Regulation Committee’ recently held its 14th regular meeting to discuss the operational policies during the 21st presidential election period, as well as the current state of consumer damage relief efforts on the Naver platform.
The meeting was attended by Kwon Heon-young, a professor at Korea University’s Graduate School of Information Security and chairman of the Naver Self-Regulation Committee, along with other committee members and Yu Bong-seok, Naver’s Head of Policy/RM. In May, Lee Myung-jin, a professor of sociology at Korea University, and Park Se-hwan, a professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology School of Law, joined the committee as new members.
During this meeting, Naver transparently disclosed its operational policies for the presidential election period and emphasized that it is providing a variety of content, including news by media outlets, public opinion surveys, and election commission content, through a special election page. Notably, this year, a new system was introduced to notify both the media outlet and users when there is a surge in user responses, such as comments.
The Naver Self-Regulation Committee suggested enhancing the user interface of the special page to strengthen its credibility and proposed working more closely with the National Election Commission to ensure that users receive intuitive guidance on unfair election reporting articles.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding the current situation and efforts to address consumer damages occurring on the Naver platform. The committee encouraged exploring cooperation with relevant institutions while also seeking to identify the causes of inconvenience experienced by consumers and find solutions.
Meanwhile, through regular meetings, the Naver Self-Regulation Committee inspects user protection across all services and offers recommendations for improvements. In the 11th meeting, discussions were held on Naver’s ongoing efforts to improve customer service (CS) from a user protection perspective, and Naver stated its plans to continuously improve its customer response system based on the committee’s feedback. The 12th and 13th meetings involved discussions on activity reports and research projects being prepared by the Self-Regulation Committee.
