“The delivery person is asking for the recipient’s address? …Beware of impersonation voice phishing”

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Jo Sung-mi: The Postal Service Headquarters of the Ministry of Science and ICT warned on the 5th about a series of attempted voice phishing crimes impersonating postal carriers, advising caution and providing guidelines on how to respond in similar cases.

According to the Postal Service Headquarters, there was a recent attempt to impersonate a postal carrier from the Incheon Mansoo Complex Post Office, calling from the number 032-462-2005 to induce the installation of a malicious application, aiming to obtain personal information such as addresses.

Additionally, there was an incident where someone impersonated a postal carrier, claiming to deliver a credit card, and induced the installation of a malicious app to steal information from the victim’s mobile phone.

The Postal Service Headquarters emphasized that postal carriers do not inquire about delivery addresses from recipients since they pre-verify delivery locations through postal items and urged caution.

To reduce the risk of falling victim to scams involving postal carrier impersonation, the Postal Service Headquarters recommended the following guidelines: check if there is any expected mail, confirm notifications or messages about registered mail delivery, and contact the Postal Customer Service Center (☎1588-1300) to verify the contact details of postal carriers or check registered mail numbers.
