SK Broadband announced on the 25th that they have added ‘AI Drawing’ and a Korean-English hybrid voice recognition engine to the ‘Living English’ service, which allows users to converse with generative AI characters on B tv ZEM.

Living English is a service from B tv ZEM that allows users to practice English speaking at home for free. It offers a curriculum designed from levels 1 to 4, enabling users to learn from phonics to short sentences alongside the AI native speaker character, ‘Zeppelin.’

After SK Broadband launched ‘Living English Free Talking,’ which integrated ChatGPT 3.5, in November last year, the number of users increased by 2.1 times, and usage instances grew by 1.7 times.

In collaboration with the edtech company Archipin, which developed Zeppelin, SK Broadband introduced the AI Drawing feature, an industry-first for internet TV (IPTV), allowing generative AI to illustrate spoken English content as images.

AI Drawing is tailored to the learner’s level. At lower levels, learners can generate images by reading sentences aloud with ‘Let’s Draw Together.’ The sentences provided change each time, and learners can acquire essential elementary English vocabulary through AI Drawing.

For higher-level learners, ‘Draw It My Way’ facilitates learning free word usage and sentence structure. Users can describe their desired images in words or sentences, and the generative AI character Zeppelin creates images that match the background from over 50 options.

Additionally, SK Broadband has advanced the Korean-English hybrid voice recognition engine. When users speak unknown words or sentences in Korean, Zeppelin provides the English translation. This voice recognition engine has been applied to Free Talking and Draw It My Way.

Moreover, games used in English kindergartens have been introduced to enhance vocabulary. Users can improve their English skills by competing in games with Zeppelin. Four reinforced conversation topics linked to robust English in Free Talking, such as music, travel, books, and family/friends, have been added.

Kanghee Lee, the Segment Marketing Manager at SK Broadband, explained that ‘Living English’ was created with the intention of enabling free home conversations between children and native speakers. – By Jae-woo Ko
