The app analytics company WiseApp, Retail & Goods announced on the 7th that they investigated the number of users and usage time of generative artificial intelligence (AI) apps.
According to WiseApp, in December of last year, the most used generative AI app by Korean smartphone users (Android+iOS) was ChatGPT, with 6.82 million monthly users. This was followed by A.Dot with 2.45 million users, RyuTen with 2.32 million users, Perplexity with 590,000 users, Microsoft Copilot with 310,000 users, and Claude with 120,000 users.
Notably, the monthly usage time of generative AI apps increased more than eightfold compared to the previous year. Usage time, which was 110 million minutes in December 2023, significantly grew to 900 million minutes by December 2024.
This survey was conducted by WiseApp, Retail & Goods using a sample of Korean Android and iOS smartphone users, focusing on conversational AI apps that perform roles such as information retrieval, text and image generation, and personal assistant services. However, apps specialized in specific functions like photography, notes, and translation were excluded from the survey.
WiseApp, Retail & Goods stated, “The rapid growth of generative AI services is changing the way content is consumed and produced, and is deeply rooted among Korean users as well.”
