SKT: “Ten thousand SIM card replacements completed over the weekend with new reservation system”

Over the past weekend, SKT announced that approximately 10,000 users replaced their SIM cards through a new reservation system. Today, SKT stated on their official website that with the ability to specify the store, date, and time for the SIM replacement, they can now distribute SIM cards more appropriately across different stores.

Previously, customers would select their preferred store and reserve a slot, and the store would notify them once the SIM stock arrived, but SKT explains that this process has become more streamlined. Following the April incident of SIM hacking, SKT has been offering free SIM replacements. As of June 20, a new reservation system was launched, allowing customers to select their preferred store, date, and time for replacements.

SKT mentioned that the process was conducted smoothly at 2,600 T-World stores without long customer wait times and that they have secured enough servers and applied traffic distribution solutions for stable system operations.

Additionally, through the “visiting service” that reached remote areas by June 22, 2,000 support staff replaced about 40,000 SIMs at 286 locations. Starting today, the second phase of the “visiting service” for the elderly and disabled will be rolled out.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to lift the suspension on new agency operations through SIMs after monitoring the new SIM replacement system’s progress.
